Lower Eyelid Lift-Blepharoplasty
Plastic Surgery of the Lower Eyelid
Puffiness of the lower lid can be corrected by removal of excessive skin and fat through an incision under the eyelashes extending out slightly past the corner of the eye. Some patients will also require a concurrent tightening of the lower lids to avoid having the lid turn outward. In the appropriate patient lower lid blepharoplasty can be done through an incision behind the eyelid, avoiding a skin incision altogether. This can is known as transconjunctival lower lid blepharoplasty. Sometimes we may recommend the repositioning of the existing eyelid fat to fill in adjacent depressions (tear trough deformity) or concurrent lifting of cheek tissue (midface lift). Fresno surgeon Dr Peter Truong is Fellowship-trained in Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery and is an unequalled expert in eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty).
Recovery
You may experience bruising or swelling. Within 5 to 7 days 80% should be gone. Within two weeks most patients can look good enough not to require make-up. Discomfort is minimal and requires pain medications for 1-2 days.
Medicare or insurance coverage
Surgery on the upper lid is generally covered if it can be shown that the excessive skin is covering part of the patient’s field of vision and is visually significant. Surgery on the lower eyelid is also covered if the lid is lax enough to cause tearing or irritation.
