Q: I'm concerned about scarring since my skin is prone to keloid. What are the chances that will happen with my eyelid?
A: Zero to none. Most people think they keloid but they have hypertrophic scars in certain location prone to them such as the chest or near joints. The eyelid skin is the thinnest in the body and is the least likely place to form a true keloid. True keloid scars are quite rare and grow outside of their original boundary like a cancer.
Q: Why do my eyes look and feel heavy?
A: The most common cause of eyelid heaviness is excess lid skin from loss of skin elasticity. The redundant skin can touch or even cover the eyelashes. Another contributing factor may be eyebrow drooping which will push the lid skin downward. Some patients develop lid heaviness from stretching or weakness of the levator muscle which holds the lid up. All of these issues can be effectively corrected surgically.
Q: What cause dark circles under my eyes? Is there any cure for them? I use a lot of creams and they don't seem to help.
A: Most dark circles are caused by fat deposits in the eyelid or loss of tissue in the tear trough with aging. Filler injections in the tear trough can help. Some cases require surgery to remove and/or reposition the lid fat.
