Plastic Surgery of the Upper Eyelid

In the upper eyelid, excessive skin and fat can be removed around the existing eyelid fold. Some patients do better with a concurrent forehead lift if there is significant brow droop. This is especially true if there is skin folding outside the corner of the eyes. In some patients, the actual eyelid is in a low position. This condition is called eyelid ptosis and is usually caused by stretching of the muscle that elevates the lid. Ptosis repair can be combined with upper lid blepharoplasty in the appropriate patient. Recovery

You may experience bruising or swelling. Within 5 to 7 days 80% should be gone. Discomfort is minimal and requires simple Tylenol.

Medicare or insurance coverage

Surgery on the upper lid is generally covered if it can be shown that the excessive skin is covering part of the patient’s field of vision and is visually significant. Surgery on the lower eyelid is also covered if the lid is lax enough to cause tearing or irritation.
