Obagi Blue Peel

Obagi Blue Peel (Chemical Peel)

The Obagi Blue Peel is a controlled depth TCA (trichloroacetic acid) peel. This is done in the physician’s office. The Blue Peel offers a level of skin rejuvenation beyond what is achievable with the Obagi Nu-Derm System alone. It can be used to gradually improve skin texture, blemishes, wrinkles, acne scars, uneven pigmentation and sun damage. In most cases one to three Blue Peels can result in dramatic improvements with many skin problems. The peels can be performed in 6 to 8 week intervals until your desired goals are reached.

What to expect after Obagi Blue Peel

With each layer, you will experience a sensation of the heat. The acid is self- neutralizing and this sensation automatically subsides within 3 – 5 minutes. After the peel solution is applied, a combination of cooling fan and cool packs can be applied to provide comfort. The skin will feel tight and may darken before it peels.

Healing

Obagi Nu Derm and Retin-AYour skin will begin to peel in 3 days and should be through the peeling process within 5 – 7 days. The peeling should not interfere with your normal life style. Healing is usually painless with no discomfort. Some swelling may occur, usually around the eye area. Occasional itching may occur. You will be instructed on post peel product usage and will be followed closely to monitor your progress. You will be given antiviral antibiotic to take for one week. The best time to judge the results of a Blue Peel is about 6 weeks after the peel date. Keeping your skin’s new healthy glow and youthful appearance is an ongoing process. The Obagi Nu-Derm Restoration System is an at home program designed to prepare the skin prior to the Blue Peel and to promote long-term overall skin health.

Complications

Occasionally, there is no improvement and another form of treatment may be required. Due to the nature of the peel, complications usually seen with deeper peels, laser or dermabrasion, such as keloids or scarring is possible but unlikely to occur. Infections due to bacterial or viral outbreak may occur. Temporary mild pigmentation problems may occur and can usually be corrected using the Obagi Nu-Derm System. Long term complications resulting from the peel are rare
