Have you ever thought about collagen injection to fill in those ugly lines or folds on the face? Did you know that a large part of aging is loss of tissue which accentuates sagging from gravity? Would you like to have lips that are plumper, more luscious, and thought that collagen was your only option? There are significant disadvantages to collagen. Collagen is made from bovine tissue and can cause severe allergic reactions. Our body breaks down this foreign material so the effect does not last very long. The options for facial soft tissue augmentation have recently expanded considerably with the availability of PTFE facial implants and Radiesse®, Restylane, Juvederm, and Sculptra injections. Restylane lasts longer than collagen, however Radiesse® and Juvederm last considerably longer than both Restylane and collagen. Sculptra lasts the longest, about 2-3 years.
